HARRISBURG – Rep. Andrew Kuzma (R-Allegheny/Washington) today announced he is hosting a free shredding event on Saturday, April 20, at Elizabeth Borough Volunteer Fire Company to give residents of the 39th Legislative District a chance to safeguard themselves against identity theft by having their personal documents securely destroyed.

The event will be held at 101 S. First St., Elizabeth, from 10 a.m. to noon

“Last year’s event drew a large crowd, and I am happy to offer this opportunity again,” Kuzma said. “One way to protect oneself is to destroy personal documents and not just throw them in the trash. I hope this event not only prevents identity theft, but also prompts people to think about steps they can take to safeguard their information.”

Acceptable items include all paper documents. No more than three brown paper grocery bags or open small cardboard boxes per household are permitted, and no businesses, please. Bags are preferred to boxes. In addition, no large binder clips or hardbound covers will be accepted. Materials more than 1-inch thick will need to be broken down.

Dry goods for the food pantry and old medication collected by the police department also will be part of the event.

The 39th Legislative District includes Elizabeth, Forward and South Park townships and Elizabeth, Jefferson Hills, Pleasant Hills and West Elizabeth boroughs in Allegheny County; and Union and part of Carroll townships, Finleyville and New Eagle boroughs, and the city of Monongahela in Washington County.
