Numerous Fire, EMS Grants Awarded, Kuzma Says

HARRISBURG – Rep. Andrew Kuzma (R-Allegheny/Washington) today announced 19 fire companies and emergency medical service companies serving the 39th Legislative District were awarded more than $347,000 in Fire Company and Emergency Medical Services grants.
“We owe immense gratitude to our emergency responders for their unwavering commitment to keeping our communities safe – day or night and no matter the weather,” Kuzma said. “I’m proud to see these funds returning to our region in a way that strengthens protection for every resident of the 39th Legislative District.”
The grant money comes from state gaming proceeds as required under state law. It was first initiated in 2000 and is open to volunteer and career fire companies, emergency medical services and rescue squads in Pennsylvania. Grant awards can be used for construction or renovation of a fire or ambulance company facility, purchase or repair of equipment, training, recruitment and retention, public education about fire prevention, and reduction of existing debt. The funding amounts are contingent on the recipients filing their grant agreements with the Office of the State Fire Commissioner.
Fire and emergency medical services companies that serve the 39th District were awarded the following amounts:
• Blaine Hill Volunteer Fire Company – $15,930.
• Broughton Volunteer Fire Department – $16,137.
• Buena Vista Volunteer Fire Company – $12,426.
• Elizabeth Borough Volunteer Fire Company – $28,137.
• Elizabeth Township Fire Department No. 1 – $52,136.
• Elrama Volunteer Fire Company – $15,724.
• Finleyville Volunteer Fire Department – $12,633.
• Floreffe Volunteer Fire Company – $13,251.
• Forward Township Volunteer Fire Company and Relief Association – $12,014.
• Gallatin Sunnyside Volunteer Fire Department – $15,518.
• Jefferson 885 Volunteer Fire Company – $14,075.
• Library Volunteer Fire Company – $15,106.
• Monongahela Fire Company – $12,426.
• New Eagle Volunteer Fire Department – $12,220.
• Southeast Regional EMS -- $45,000.
• Pleasant Hills Volunteer Fire Company – $15,312.
• Tri Community Ambulance – $15,000.
• Valley Inn Volunteer Fire Department – $13,457.
• Volunteer Fire Department of Carroll Township – $14,075.
The 39th Legislative District includes Elizabeth, Forward and South Park townships and Elizabeth, Jefferson Hills, Pleasant Hills and West Elizabeth boroughs in Allegheny County; and Union and part of Carroll townships, Finleyville and New Eagle boroughs, and the city of Monongahela in Washington County.
